Twenty members of the Osaka Prefecture Association of Travel Agents (OATA) toured the eastern part of the prefecture on September 3rd and 4th at the invitation of the Kochi Prefecture Tourism and Convention Association. They visited the much talked about "Muroto Abandoned School Aquarium," a former elementary school site that has been renovated into an aquarium. This is the second time since last year that Kochi Prefecture has invited OATA members to a tour. This is in recognition of the OATA members' ability to attract visitors and their product development capabilities using subsidies set by the convention association. During an exchange of opinions held at Ryoma no Yado Nansui in Kochi City, Kenichi Miura, executive director of the convention association, introduced a new nature experience-based tourism campaign that will start in February 2019, and declared, "Tourism in Kochi Prefecture will enter a new era." He called on OATA members to continue their cooperation. Chairman Tokuhara said, "Since the airing of the historical drama 'Ryomaden,' Kochi Prefecture has been making extraordinary efforts to maintain 4 million tourists. We would like to make use of this visit to respond to their wishes by sending as many customers as possible." Although the trip was brought forward significantly due to the direct hit of Typhoon 21, an OATA member who participated said, "It's unfortunate that we couldn't stop at the facilities we had planned, but we were able to learn valuable information. We would like to share this with our customers and develop tours to Kochi Prefecture."
