Nara City and Okuda Limited Company (President: Nobuko Okuda, Osaka Prefectural Governor Registration 3-2265) have signed a partnership agreement to promote "Satoyama Minpaku" in the eastern part of the city. This is the first time in Nara Prefecture that a government and a private business have signed a partnership agreement to utilize the new Minpaku law for regional development. "Satoyama Minpaku" is a term coined by Nara City. It is positioned as a broad term that refers not only to Minpaku as defined by the new Minpaku law, but also to experiential tourism in general. Nara City states that "The partnership agreement will enable us to commercialize and promote the new Minpaku law in conjunction with existing tourism and agriculture in the Satoyama region," and "Active promotion of Minpaku in urbanization control areas is one method of sustainable regional development." Nara City and Okuda plan to support residents and businesses in the eastern part of the city to take the initiative in providing accommodation, experiences, meals, shopping, etc. that utilize rural regional resources.
