The Corporate Games Kansai 2018, where colleagues form teams to compete in various sports, was held on October 27th and 28th at Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Higashisumiyoshi-ku, Osaka. 271 teams from 58 organizations, totaling 3,100 people, competed in 10 sports, including relay marathon, baseball, tug-of-war, and futsal. The Corporate Games is a citizen-participation sports festival that began in the UK in the 1980s. It has been held in countries around the world, with a total of over 1 million participants. It has been held in Tokyo in Japan, but this is the first time it has been held in Kansai. At the opening ceremony on the 27th, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Takehiko Udagawa (JTB Managing Executive Officer and Kansai Regional Representative), said, "There are a lot of large-scale sports events coming up, such as the Rugby World Cup, the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and the World Masters Games. I hope that this event will foster sports momentum in Kansai and be an opportunity for participating companies to get to know each other better." He expressed his enthusiasm for promoting exchanges through sports and revitalizing the region. At the opening ceremony, Yoshimoto comedians such as Nakayama Kinniku-kun and Genki-zu Uno also participated, livening up the participants. In the competition, the relay marathon, in which multiple members ran 42.195 km, was cheered by colleagues watching from the stadium, and in the tug-of-war, some teams were seen smiling wryly at the overwhelming difference in physique. The excitement was there from start to finish.
