According to a report by the Japan Tourism Agency, the total transaction value of major travel agencies in September was 438,411 million yen, down 3.2% compared to the same month last year. Domestic travel was down 8.6% to 229,450 million yen, due to the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake and typhoons. Overseas travel increased 2.7% to 190,485 million yen. Recruitment-based travel was affected by the closure of Kansai Airport due to Typhoon Jebi, but group travel was strong. Foreign travel increased 11.5% to 18,476 million yen. Despite the natural disasters, the European, American and Australian markets remain strong. Seventeen of the 49 companies exceeded the same month last year.
