According to a survey of travel reservations for the New Year holiday period (Departures from December 27th to January 5th, 2019, surveyed on November 15th) compiled by Hankyu Travel International (President Matsuda Seiji), the number of reservations for domestic travel is 124% higher than the same period last year, and for overseas travel it is 105% higher than the same period last year, both of which are showing a favorable trend. Domestic travel is showing a favorable trend in almost all destinations, exceeding the previous year. Okinawa, which ranked first in the number of reservations, is 159% higher than the previous year. Plans to stay at luxurious resort hotels and remote island tours around the Yaeyama Islands are said to be popular. In second place is the Chugoku area, which has an astonishing increase of 259%. Tours from Kansai to Tottori and other areas in search of crabs are doing well. In third place is Kinki, in fourth place is Kanto, and in fifth place is Hokuriku/Koshinetsu. For overseas travel, due to the arrangement of days that result in long holidays between holidays, it is notable that the numbers for long-distance destinations such as Europe, Egypt, Morocco, and Turkey have increased significantly from the previous year. Short-distance Asian destinations such as South Korea and Taiwan also remain popular. The ranking is 1st Europe, 2nd Taiwan, 3rd China, 4th South Korea, and 5th Egypt/Morocco.
