JTB and Seven-Eleven Japan will begin installing private lodging check-in machines at Seven-Eleven convenience stores in Tokyo from June 15th, when the new private lodging law comes into effect. By making convenience stores function as 24-hour "front desks," they will help promote the spread of legal private lodging. The service is called "Front Desk 24" and was jointly developed by the two companies for private lodging facilities. Private lodging users can check in and receive keys at any time through the terminal. The new private lodging law requires management companies of private lodgings where the owner is not present to create a guest list and verify the identity of guests at the time of check-in, and this machine was developed to clear that issue. A 24-hour multilingual call center will be set up to provide support for problems that occur during check-in. The machine is scheduled to be installed in 50 stores by October. The company aims to have 1,000 stores nationwide by fiscal 2020.
