On September 14th, Hankyu Travel International announced the ranking of tourist train name keywords used in searches on its website. In first place for the second year in a row was Kintetsu's "Shimakaze." The No. 1 "Shimakaze" connects Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya with Ise-Shima. It is popular for its high-quality seats, the scenery from the train windows, and its diverse styles, including Japanese-style rooms and salon seats. In second place was JR Shikoku's "Shikoku Mannaka Sennen Monogatari," which makes its first appearance. It runs through the center of Shikoku from Tadotsu to Oboke, and conveys the climate of Shikoku through its food and scenery. In third place was JR West's "SL Yamaguchi," in fourth place was Oigawa Railway's "Thomas," and in fifth and tenth place was JR Kyushu's "Yufuin no Mori," all of which rose in the rankings from the previous year. In sixth place was JR Shikoku's "Iyonada Monogatari," in seventh place JR West Japan/IR Ishikawa Railway's "Hanayome Noren," and in eighth place JR Kyushu's "Aru Ressha," all of which dropped in rank from last year but still made it into the top ten this year. In ninth place was JR Shikoku's "Anpanman Train," a children's staple that made its first appearance on the list. In tenth place was Hisatsu Orange Railway's "Orange Restaurant." Overall, the popularity of trains in Shikoku and Kyushu stood out. The rankings were calculated from the total number of searches from August 2017 to July 2018.
