The Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) Chugoku-Shikoku Branch (Branch Chief: Seigo Senba, President of Kinki Nippon Tourist Chugoku-Shikoku) has started a "Campaign to Disseminate Information on the Recovery Status of Disaster-hit Tourism Areas" in the region on October 1st to support tourism recovery from the heavy rains of July 2018. The branch is recruiting 100 employees (including supporting members) on a first-come, first-served basis to disseminate information on blogs, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media with hashtags such as "We're doing well in XX prefecture/XX city." By disseminating accurate local information, the campaign will counter rumors. The campaign will run until the end of November. The information will be disseminated from 13 prefectures, mainly in western Japan, that are eligible for the national tourism support project subsidy. Transportation costs required to travel to the region will be subsidized up to a maximum of 10,000 yen. If lodging is required, self-arrangements will be made using the "13 Prefectures Recovery Tour Discount" and other programs. Because the campaign was suddenly decided at the end of September, there have been only nine applicants so far (as of October 10th). There were applications from employees who were eligible for travel subsidies, such as from Hiroshima Prefecture to Kochi Prefecture, and from Tottori Prefecture to Yamaguchi Prefecture. Residents of the prefecture can also participate in the campaign by posting information about the area. To participate in the campaign, contact the JATA Chugoku-Shikoku branch at 082-536-0700.
