Nippon Travel Agency and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. are the two companies that started the project, and 14 companies, including seven JR Group companies, Chikyu no Arukikata, Otetsutabi, TBWA HAKUHODO, Earth Hacks, and the Japan Geopark Network, have joined forces with the Ministry of the Environment (Deco-katsu Support Team) and Tohoku University to announce the "GREEN JOURNEY" tour, which incorporates the use of EVs and sustainable local content. On August 20th, the "GREEN JOURNEY Promotion Committee," a collaboration between companies from different industries, was launched. In cooperation with regions across the country, the project offers a new style of travel in which travelers can enjoy their trip while also contributing to the local environment and sustainability. Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., the initiator of the project, has set up the "Blue Switch," an electric car initiative in Japan, and has been focusing on expanding environmentally friendly EV rental cars. Nippon Travel has also been hoping to take this opportunity to spread sustainable tourism, which is spreading overseas, to Japan, where domestic tourism demand is increasing due to the weak yen. The Ministry of the Environment's "Deco Activity Support Team," which aims to reduce CO2 emissions, and Tohoku University, which promotes gourmet geopolitics to make the most of underutilized fish, have also joined in, and a new sustainable travel style will be developed through public-private collaboration. To begin with, Nippon Travel will be selling two tours planned for Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and Shima City, Mie Prefecture, from August 20th. Both tours offer optional plans such as travel in EV rental cars, activities that allow you to experience the nature and traditional culture unique to the area, and gourmet food that leads to sustainability. The activity goal is to achieve net zero CO2 emissions from domestic travel by 2050 (a state in which greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere are balanced with the amount of greenhouse gas removed, resulting in net zero greenhouse gas emissions). In terms of domestic travel, the company aims to expand GREEN JOURNEY's travel destinations to 200 areas nationwide by 2033, and to increase the total number of users to more than 10 million. The key visual for GREEN JOURNEY is Snufkin, who enjoys traveling at his own pace. Model Ai Tominaga and Moomin also appeared at the presentation venue, and there was a cross-talk about the appeal of travel and tourist resources.
