On October 26, JTB West Japan (President Mitsuyama Kiyohide) and the Dotonbori Shopping District Association in Osaka's Minami district (Chairman Kamiyama Katsuya) signed an area management collaboration agreement. They will position Dotonbori as a food and entertainment theme park and work on collaborative projects to increase the value of the area. Dotonbori was once a town lined with theaters, and was a place where people visited on special occasions. The collaborative project will utilize Dotonbori ZAZA (Representative Yoshimoto Tsunehiro) as a revival base. Starting next spring, they will perform a non-verbal food musical called "Gotta." They will make full use of projection mapping and other techniques to propose it as a new form of entertainment, both at home and abroad, day or night. JTB West Japan will set up coupons for individual travelers, such as "Dotonbori Comedy Live Viewing Tickets" using ZAZA and Kadoza, and coupons that combine Gotta theater tickets with hospitality coupons from the shopping district to encourage people to travel around the area. The hospitality vouchers will feature the individuality of each store in the shopping district, such as an all-you-can-eat candy voucher, and will allow customers to enjoy eating, watching, and buying. For group and educational trips, a "Jiben no Tabi Dotonbori" tour will be set up. The tour will include a stroll around Hozenji Yokocho and Ukiyo-koji with a young entertainer as a guide, a lecture on the shopping district's efforts to develop the town, and a viewing of Gotta. All of these products will be available after April next year, when Gotta performances begin, but before then, the tour will introduce multilingual services and smartphone payment systems, and promote exhibitions and social gatherings that position Dotonbori as a unique avenue. At the signing ceremony, Chairman Ueyama said, "In order to make Dotonbori a bustling area even 100 years from now, we want to aim to become a new entertainment hub from the perspective of Dotonbori in the world," and JTB West Japan President Mitsuyama said, "We will develop the charm of Dotonbori, improve its convenience, and advance collaborative projects, and become a pioneer and leader in tourism development centered on entertainment." JTB West Japan plans to consider setting up a tourist information desk in Dotonbori in the future, and also plans to promote Dotonbori to the tourism industry, including other companies.
