JTB recently compiled the results of an online survey on experiential travel. The results suggest that "experiences influence travel destination decisions," with about 60% of respondents saying that "experiences influence travel destination decisions," suggesting that "experiences" are becoming more important in travel. 20.4% said that the experiences they can have at a particular location "influence" them when deciding on a travel destination, and 36.2% said that "it somewhat influences" them, for a total of about 57% who place importance on "experiences." When asked "Do you think experiential travel will increase in 2018?", 17.8% said "it will increase," and 50.0% said "it will somewhat increase," showing high interest. In the past three years, the most common experiences were factory tours, tourist train rides, and fruit picking and other harvesting experiences, with these three being the most common. The company believes that this is due to the fact that many tours that incorporate these experiences are being planned. As for experiences that people would like to have in the future, the most popular answer was riding tourist trains, with 1,024 votes. Considering that factory tours came in second with 684 votes, it seems that people are quite interested in tourist trains. Factory tours, which had the highest number of participants, showed high interest in food and drink such as sweets, food products, beer, and alcohol, with people wanting to go as couples or with their families. Regarding infrastructure tourism, which is attracting a lot of attention, many people showed interest in dams and railway-related facilities. The survey was conducted in January by the company's travel questionnaire "Tabi Q", targeting men and women aged 20 and over nationwide. There were 2,130 valid responses.
