On May 30th, the Kyoto Prefecture Travel Industry Cooperative Association (Chairman Uehara Tatsuo, Art Tourist) held its 36th regular general meeting at the Kyoto Brighton Hotel in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, and approved the decision to transfer Zenryo Co., Ltd., which it had been handling since 2006, to the Kyoto Prefecture Association of Travel Agents, a general incorporated association. Uehara said, "The gap between the number of branch members and the number of association members has widened, and the balance between the business outsourcing fee and stock dividends has become difficult to maintain," and asked for understanding for the decision to move to a new business company. He also gave a detailed explanation of the efforts of the "HOK (Hoko) Liaison Committee" being carried out by the three travel industry cooperatives, the Osaka Prefecture Association of Travel Agents Cooperative Association, and the Hyogo Prefecture Travel Industry Cooperative Association. "With the lack of successors and the increasing number of travel industry closures, we wanted to create an association that could somehow leave a mark, so we decided to work on various projects through joint planning by the three associations. We want to create economies of scale and move forward so that local inns and other establishments will recognize us," he said. Furthermore, the association reported that the Kyoto Prefectural Small and Medium Enterprise Hall, where the association secretariat is currently located, will close at the end of March 2019, and that the association will relocate to the Kyoto Economic Center (tentative name) currently under construction on the site of the former Kyoto Industrial Hall in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City. The Okazaki Sakura Corridor Jikkokubune Tour, one of the association's main projects, attracted 18,409 visitors over 44 days. There were 2,391 online reservations, including optional plans, for 6,234 people, and 765 applications from overseas. The destination-based travel products created to coincide with the Jikkokubune tour attracted 118 visitors for the Kyoto Stroll and 85 visitors for the Premium Stroll. The Lake Biwa Canal Special Spring Cruise, a trial project to revive the Lake Biwa Canal, attracted 51 visitors with a plan that included sightseeing in the area and a meal. Kyoto City Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa attended the social gathering held after the general meeting. "We will be collecting an accommodation tax from October, but we will carefully consider how to use this revenue and want to use it in a way that is effective for Kyoto," he said.
