Total transaction amounts for major travel agencies in April compiled by the Japan Tourism Agency were 266,323 million yen, down 36.1% compared to the same month in 2019. This was a large drop due in part to the fact that 2019 had a 10-day Golden Week holiday. Domestic travel was down 30.0% to 158,150 million yen, remaining stable compared to the previous year. Overseas travel was down 48.9% to 84,207 million yen, showing a gradual recovery from the previous year. Travel by foreigners was down 7.1% to 23,966 million yen, a slight increase from the previous year. Of the 43 companies, seven exceeded their figures for the same month in 2019.
