Total transaction amounts for major travel agencies in May, as compiled by the Japan Tourism Agency, were 419,302 million yen, down 28.1% compared to the same month in 2019. While it remains below 2019 figures, the rate of decline narrowed from the previous month. Domestic travel was down 24.2% to 185,839 million yen, also below the previous year's figure. Overseas travel was down 36.8% to 96,347 million yen, continuing the recovery trend. Travel by foreigners was down 10.1% to 19,391 million yen, a slight increase from the previous year. Of the 43 companies, 10 companies exceeded the same month in 2019.
