Tokyo Metropolitan Government is now recruiting participants for a monitor tour of the "Barrier-Free Beach Experience Workshop" to be held in Niijima, Tokyo, as part of an initiative to provide know-how on operating a nature experience tourism program for people with disabilities. The tour will take place on September 19-20, and will be for two days and one night, and will be attended by travel agents and experience tourism providers in Tokyo (approximately 20 people), and people with disabilities such as wheelchair users (approximately three people). The high-speed jet boat (between Takeshiba and Niijima) and accommodation costs on Niijima (transportation, seats, and accommodation between Takeshiba and Niijima cannot be designated) will be covered by Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The tour will promote tourism that allows people with disabilities and the elderly to enjoy Tokyo's nature with peace of mind, while sharing know-how on beach experiences for people with disabilities using specialized equipment.The workshop is part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Promotion of Nature-Based Tourism that Everyone Can Enjoy," a new project for fiscal year 2024. In Niijima, wheelchair users and other people with disabilities will be offered a beach swimming experience under the guidance of an expert, and travel agencies, experience-based tourism providers, and tourism associations will be given the opportunity to experience operating a barrier-free beach using beach wheelchairs and mats. The workshop will feature Masahiro Sakakibara, chairman of the Shonan Barrier-Free Tour Center, who will introduce the efforts of the Shonan Barrier-Free Center and explain how to operate a barrier-free beach. The barrier-free beach experience will involve operating a barrier-free beach using a beach wheelchair Mobi Chair and a wheelchair towing device called "JINRIKI." The number of participants is limited to about 20 people, and if the number of participants exceeds the number of participants, a lottery will be held.
