From April 1, the Japan Association of Travel Agents (ANTA) has included a "serious accident support system" as standard in the travel accident compensation system handled by its designated agent, "Zenritsu Hoken." It will comprehensively support travel agencies in responding to serious accidents. The new compensation system was jointly developed by ANTA and Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance. With advice from accident response experts, it is an insurance that allows smooth customer response, and the system is designed to enable crisis management and response for domestic and overseas package tours (recruitment type and order type) and domestic arranged tours handled by ANTA members. The Travel Agency Act defines serious accidents as (1) accidents resulting in deaths, (2) accidents resulting in 10 or more injuries, (3) terrorist attacks, large-scale natural disasters, and hijackings involving 10 or more people, and (4) accidents that the travel agency judges to have a large social impact. The newly added serious accident support system responds to serious accidents defined in the Travel Agency Act. When an accident occurs, a team from Safety Support Co., Ltd., a company specializing in accident response and providing crisis management consulting, will rush to the scene of the accident or to the ANTA member office. They will provide detailed support to the travel agency on what to do. A representative from Safety Support Co., Ltd. will be stationed at the office for the necessary period, and the new support system will cover various expenses such as labor costs for temporary employees to respond to the accident, rescue costs for victims, costs for their families to travel to the site, accommodation, meals, consultation fees with lawyers, and venue setup and arrangements for press conferences for the media. In the event of a serious accident, the insurance will cover cases where one or more people die in one accident, or one or more people are hospitalized for a total of three days or more in one accident. The payment limits are 10 million yen and 1 million yen, respectively. The premium is 19 yen per traveler. ANTA says, "This system can be used by all members who have joined the All Japan Travel Association Travel Accident Compensation System. We have a perfect system in place for the event of an emergency accident," and hopes that ANTA members will use the insurance more.
