The final judging session for the "15th Kansai Airport Overseas Travel Made by Students and Travel Agencies" event (co-hosted by Kansai Airport and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) Kansai Branch), in which university students use their own ideas to plan overseas trips, was held on June 29th at the Tabihaku 2004 venue. 22 groups from 13 universities in Kansai, Kyushu, and the Tokyo metropolitan area applied, and eight groups from six universities competed in the final judging session. The grand prize went to Wakayama University's "#Lolita-san Want to Connect with Lolita? Lolita-Cute French Trip - Renting out an old castle for a Lolita-only ball." At the beginning, Nagano Kozo, chairman of the JATA Kansai Branch Overseas Travel Committee, gave a cheer, saying, "Even in the application materials, there were many points of insight and learning for us travel agencies. After that, we worked with the travel agencies to polish the materials, and we look forward to a passionate presentation today. Kansai Airport will celebrate its 30th anniversary on September 4th this year. We would like to make use of everyone's knowledge." The contest was a first round of judging, and each group was selected to refine their plan with the help and advice of a travel agency representative from the Overseas Travel Committee. Each group was given 10 minutes to present their plan, using their imagination to explain the background of their plan, including social issues, and the possibility of self-realization through travel. The grand prize winner, "Lolita-Cute France Trip," was chosen from among the many strong entries. The content was targeted at women who love Lolita fashion, and it created a special feeling. It was highly praised by the judges for its specificity, including a promotion plan using SNS and pricing. The winner, Aika Goto from the Wakayama University Tourism Department, said, "We were worried that Lolita would be well received, and we never thought it would pass," and expressed her gratitude to her university professor and the person in charge at Yomiuri Travel who mentored them. The winners were presented with a trophy, a certificate, and a 100,000 yen travel voucher as a bonus. The runner-up was the University of Marketing and Distribution Science's "Must-see for the lazy! A quick trip in 40 hours! On the way! 1 night, 2 days! Go to Hong Kong, China" (with the support of JTB). The university's original survey revealed that the reason young people are turning away from overseas travel is "the hassle," and the program was praised for lowering the hurdles by making it a familiar cross-cultural experience in terms of schedule and cost. In his comments at the final judging session, Vice-chairman Udaka Kenji praised the students' efforts, saying, "The tourism industry is a broad-based industry. I hope that in the near future, we can all become one team and go on overseas trips with smiles on our faces." The two organizations that organized the program plan to hold the program again next year, but some of the judges expressed a sense of crisis, as the number of applications from vocational schools has dropped sharply due to a decrease in the number of students, which shows a glimpse of people turning away from the travel industry. The winners of the Excellence Award were: Kyushu International University's "Mago Tabi Plus" (Kinki Nippon Tourist), Saga University of Arts' "Visiting Bali, the Island of Art" (Nankai International Travel), Hannan University's "Adventurous Ethnic Journey" (Tobu Top Tours), Kobe Kaisei Women's University's "Aspiring to be a Magical Girl" (Nippon Travel), University of Marketing and Distribution Sciences' "Become a Beauty Boy!" (H.I.S.), and Wakayama University's "Experience the Bordeaux terroir with a sake tasting book" (Hankyu Travel International).
