According to a report by the Japan Tourism Agency, the total transaction value of major travel agencies in October was 518,906 million yen, up 1.9% from the same month last year. This was driven by overseas travel, which continues to recover. Domestic travel was down 2.0% to 316,189 million yen. A string of typhoons over the weekend led to a series of cancellations. Overseas travel was up 8.4% to 179,780 million yen. Destinations such as Hawaii, Europe, and Taiwan were strong. Travel by foreigners was up 11.8% to 22,936 million yen. The increase was due to strong traffic from South Korea and China, as well as large-scale MICE projects. 29 of the 50 companies exceeded the same month last year.
