According to a report by the Japan Tourism Agency, the total transaction amount for major travel agencies in February was 421,754 million yen, up 3.2% from the same month last year. Domestic travel increased 1.3% to 238,522 million yen. Heavy snowfall along the Sea of Japan side caused people to refrain from traveling, but package tours to Hokkaido were strong, resulting in a slight increase from the previous year. Overseas travel increased 5.3% to 166,935 million yen. Destinations in Europe and Hawaii were strong. Travel by foreigners increased 11.6% to 16,296 million yen. There was a notable increase in transactions from Greater China and South Korea. 25 of the 50 companies exceeded the same month last year.
