On June 1st, the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA, Chairman Hiroki Tagawa) will begin accepting proposals for the "Overseas Graduation Trip Planning Contest 2018," a competition of student trip plans. Applications are open until July 4th. The contest is one of JATA's measures to stimulate overseas travel demand among young people. Travel plans are solicited from students, but the aim is for them to team up with JATA member travel agencies to turn the plans into products. Plans with original ideas typical of students are required, and students whose plans are selected after judging will work with the selected travel agency to discuss plans and procurement, and complete the travel product. The final judging will be held at the Tourism Expo Japan 2018 venue on September 21st. The grand prize will be decided after a presentation. The grand prize winner will receive a travel voucher worth 300,000 yen, and a round-trip ANA economy class ticket for up to three people as a bonus. The program is aimed at students enrolled in universities, junior colleges, and vocational schools nationwide, and will plan overseas graduation trips for the second half of 2018, with departure points set at airports in the areas where their schools are located.
